Re: Supplements

Dasuquin is a great supplement. It's my personal preference as the first line of therapy for early arthritic dogs. Fish oil is a good addition as well, you can buy the fish oil caps and cut them and squeeze the liquid over the dogs food. With your dog you may need something a little more than just s...

Re: Sore, lethargic after strenuous hunt.

Oh and one of the cheapest/easiest sources of sugar is just Karo Syrup. Works great for hypoglycemia. You can mix it in with a little dog food or most of the time you can just squirt it in their food bowl or into their mouth directly and they will lick it all up.

Re: Sore, lethargic after strenuous hunt.

It's very easy to check the glucose levels on your dog, I would check them right after she gets done with a long hunt. You just need a little drop of blood and a human glucometer (if you know a diabetic I'm sure they have a spare one you could borrow), if not every vet clinic has one and they should...

Re: Jackson area window tinting?

Is this the one you are talking about? I googled Precision and didn't find one but saw PWTint and under the reviews mentioned Oscar so figured PW is short for precision window, just wanted to make sure it's the same one: http://www.performancetinting.net/ http://www.yellowpages.com/ridgeland-ms/mip/...

Jackson area window tinting?

So on my new vehicle I've got to get my front windows tinted, who in the Jackson/Central MS Area would you guys recommend? It's been a while since I've had any tinting done around here and unsure of who to stay away from and who is good to go.

Thanks,
Spencer

Re: Lost Lab---Oxford,Ms

I hate to hear that man, I'll pass on the info. Make a flyer with pictures and take it to all the local vet clinics and the shelter, and also put a listing on Craigslist and tape it up at several gas stations around the area. I worked at a vet clinic in Oxford for years and most of the lost dogs tha...

Re: Vaccinations

The only problem with doing them yourself is if you ever need to board a dog and need proof, they won't just take your word for it. Correct, plus you can only get your rabies vaccination tag through a veterinarian so you are going to have to take your dog in to get that shot anyways. Some co-ops ca...

Re: Heart worms

I have no idea why my post went through 3 times. I'm in vet school and I worked almost exclusively with hunting labs for 3 years before then, we reccomended Moxidectin only. Ivermectin used to be great, it's crap now (not that the drug has changed any, the heartworms are just not very susceptible to...

Re: Heart worms

You want to do the "quick method", it is Immiticide and the best way to kill them off. The "slow kill" method is a poor method of heartworm treatment and is mainly used for people that can't afford Immiticide (not cheap, but worth it). The "slow kill" method keeps the i...

Re: Gun shy

Start with a .22lr or a blank gun or something very small, have a friend go off 200 yards and you be with your dog playing with it doing whatever it enjoys the most (like retrieving or playing with a dead bird) have your friend slowly move closer and continue firing while you keep the dog having a b...

Re: Dog health question

First off never let your dog jump out of the back of your truck (yes I know we all do it) but it is a surefire way to injury and possibly ruin your hunting dog, believe me I've seen 2 year old labs that will never be able to hunt again because they blew a knee out or tore ligaments/tendons from jump...

Re: Soft paws

Run him on the concrete/pavement whenever you can, a dogs pad is just like the bottom of your foot. The more rough stuff he walks on the tougher it will get, repeated trauma/irritation/inflammation will eventually toughen it up but just be careful I have seen many a cut pad from stubble in fields, h...
