Re: Favorite Hen Decoy

Carry my Avian X feeder hen and pretty boy jr. jake in a mesh laundry sack. Sometimes I just carry the hen. Easier to just keep her inflated and sling the bag over the shoulder. Yeah, it's heavier than the old foam decoys that look like a kindergardener made in arts and crafts. But it's one of those...

Re: Repaying a priceless gift

Shoot, you call that a pine thicket? That's open woods where I hunt! Great story. I do most of my hunting with my dad, even though we never turkey hunted much when I was a kid. I've also lost the frequency of a gobble and he can hear em from much further away than I can. Never been able to hear em d...

Re: Rock climbing harness as a safety system

I'll never wear a four point harness again. I like the idea of facing the tree if something happens, instead of being tied behind my head if I need to self rescue. And no worry about suspension trauma, they're designed to support your body weight. And as others have said, simply a TON more comfortab...

Re: Federal Land acquisitions / bad idea?

Po Monk, If you're constantly looking for somebody to blame, there's almost always gonna be a target. Private land conservation is such a huge part of hunting and fishing in this country, and especially for us waterfowlers. I've fought alongside others to expand the ability of private landowners to ...

Re: Federal Land acquisitions / bad idea?

The ding dong in Nevada just wanted something for nothing. Federal grazing rights are offered at laughably low prices, but low ain't free so it wasn't good enough. Take off Bundy's hat and switch grazing rights for food stamps and Sean Hannity wouldn't be able to crucify the dude fast enough. I thin...

Wonder how many turkeys ran away and didn't make the highlight reel?

Re: barrel length....what say you

I'm done using my duck gun in the turkey woods. It's really long though, 28", and has been fine. But I'm tired of lugging the dang thing around and hate how hard it is to maneuver once I sit down. I'm also done accepting mediocre patterns. So I'm turning my old 870 into a turkey gun and ordered...

Re: DIY Elk/Mule deer hunt??

I've only fooled with elk, not deer. If you want to try for a bull, you'll probably have to go OTC archery in Colorado. Believe that tag was dang near touching $600 last year after buying a habitat stamp. I agree with whoever posted above that a muzzleloader may be your best chance for success, as y...

Re: Winter Storm

People laugh at the South because two inches of snow isn't supposed to shut down ANY city, geography be damned. If I lived in Atlanta, I'd be madder at the idiots that watched this happen, assuring me that they had no idea a storm was coming, than at anybody from elsewhere in the country pointing ou...

Re: Winter Storm

Once a road gets frozen, all the bets are off. Whether that because it's sleet, compacted snow that turns to ice, black ice, or whatever, no amount of power to all the wheels creates extra friction. Four times zero is still zero. Ding dongs that think their 4WD will keep them between the ditches are...

Life is tough.....tougher if you're stupid. i've always heard: "if you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough!" ....there's some tough s.o.b.'s in this world.... obviously  Dunno, sometimes I just feel stupid. Good thing is, she WILL stop when the wheels get to the water. Just got to...

Re: Frozen Ramps

You just have to wonder what goes through folks' minds when you see where somebody pulled his boat half-way up the ramp .......then pulled the drain plug in 13 degree weather. From the very, very bottom of heart…SCREW that guy. Folks that are on a boat ramp more than 45 seconds in general, b...

Re: Pecan island,LA

on your way down right after you pass through Lafayette, stop in Scott at the best stop and get some smoked boudin. it is one of my favorite meat markets. There is not much of anything in pecan island so bring whatever you need. This. Had my in-laws bring up some boudin from Best Stop for Christmas.
