Re: what about glyphos in clover?
Thanks for waking this thread up... I'd forgotten I asked the question back then.
I'm not even planting summer crop for the deer any more... so many soybeans and corn fields in the area that I decided not to fight the droughts and bugs... let the farmers fatten the deer for me.
Thanks for the input ...

RR- I really appreciate your last couple of posts. Good writing and good material. I too am interested in the long-term advantages or disadvantages of the timbered rows that are the new forests of the Delta.

Question for those same folks piggybacking on this one but moving down the road a few years on a WRP property:
WRP properties go through a planting/grass/young tree stage and into the years 8-15 range where there is good cover/browse and maybe starting to produce some acorns. After 15 years or so ...

Your picture is a great snapshot in time showing one years density ratio of certain plant varieties...
When I (my amateur self ) look at that, I'm thinking I love that diversity but in a year or two those cattail and coffeeweed may dominate this place because they are so prolific (each one of those ...

Re: Mississippi Alluvial Valley waterfowl hunters search for ans
On duck migrations... I like to think of the sky as an ocean, and the ducks are lucky enough to be able to "swim" from one desirable place to another exactly like fish in the currents of the sea. Of course they can go anywhere they want to. It just so happens that their summer "spawning" areas ...

HDC,
I think I would plan on hiring the farmer to plant corn for you in both places...
1. FARMERS KNOW HOW TO, AND ARE OUTFITTED TO FARM CORN!
2. ducks love it- killer attractant
3. good cover for hunters
4. plants early... so if you have a failure or flood, you have the opportunity to plant millet ...

ditto on the millet.
If you have hogs, you won't have any chufa... they will root it out and eat it.
Grass like millet is mostly hog resistant.
Do you have any control over the water level in the swamp?

SSI- thanks for the offer but I'm really limited on time this winter, and any chance I have to get away, I'll do a quick hunting trip to my place.
Could you take some photos of your chiwapa spot and post them here? I sure would like to see it.
thanks- good luck hunting!
