Picture from today... December 16, '09.
Flooded on average about 3 inches depth. I may put some more water on it if the millet does not submerge more. Didn't see 1 duck today... not here yet.

Re: Jap pictures
Thanks SSI- Your chiwapa link looks good to me, but I kind of like the way jap slumps down some after drying out and flooding for hunting, exposing pockets of weedy/open water... Does the chiwapa stay upright TOO MUCH? For example it would be really tough to find birds if the chiwapa stayed good and...

Re: Farmer Help
if its sand, your only option is pumping an equal amount as is draining out... or rains of course.
But it doesn't make sense that they can hold the water to grow rice there? Whats the difference now?
Did they sub-soil after the harvest? It may take some time for those rips to swell up and seal.

Re: Jap pictures
Hey Acornman- I wonder if I've bought some hardwood switches from you in the past? Do you know if water coverage in this millet food plot will kill the few patches of burmuda grass i have there? I sure hope so... the disk won't cut through that stuff- just rolls over the top. I'd hate so see it expa...

Re: Jap pictures
Pep,
I would really like to see your Chiwapa. That has been highly recommended to us by "SB" and others, but I just have not gotten any yet.
Along with your pictures, can you give some details about your planting date, soil prep, herbicide, fertilizer, etc.?
thanks- Jon

Re: 350 Crate Motor
Good choice- talk to your mechanic about what else should be replaced... such as ignition components, plug wires, fuel filter, etc. I bought an older truck with a fresh motor put in, but they re-used all the old peripheral parts... they started wearing out, giving the "new" motor trouble.

The rains always produce good jap millet. This millet has been in water 1" to 3" for nearly all its growing season and its doing fine. In dry years it is usually hit or miss, and has a lot of weed competition. The water on it makes it nearly weedless with no herbicide. My only problem is t...

Re: Cuddeback NoFlash!!!
One more thing on the battery life of the cuddebacks I have... I have been amazed at how long they can last. I think that if you are having only a couple days life out of yours- its broken.

Re: Cuddeback NoFlash!!!
I have several cuddebacks and in general I am really happy with them. Cuddeback had a "upgrade program" where you could send in your older model that may be crapping out for a newer model... at a discount. Your cudde may be in surveillance mode, which takes a pic every minute or so- like t...

Re: What's the going price...
I don't know the answer to your price question, but my little nugget about disks is that you definitely want the model with sealed bearings instead of bushings. This will be the higher priced unit, but well worth it. Bushings have to be greased each use, during use, and after use to prevent their we...
