Re: experience shotgun advice

I bought an A400 Xtreme this year after battling shoulder AC joint and rotator cuff issues that started at he end of last year's duck season. This is after shooting a Benelli SBE for fifteen years. I loved the SBE but my 46yo shoulder can't take the beating My dad bought and hunted an A400 last year...

Re: Hearing protection

I'll throw another vote for the Surefire Sonic Defenders. Cheap at less than $20 and they work well. The newer version with foam inserts are more comfortable than the ones with rings on them. -J

Re: Shane Roten duck call

Seems we all have the same opinion of him. Mr. Percy said it best, "That boy's an $&@ hole, but he makes a nice duck call." If you have trouble tracking him down, PM me. I might could help. I grew up in Minden a couple years behind Shane. I don't know him personally but I know people w...

Re: Gun oil

Can't speak to the Winchester but my Benelli SBE is in the middle of it's thirteenth season. Never a mechanical failure. Still on the original recoil spring. I've never used anything but BreakFree CLP which can be found just about anywhere. That's all we keep at the duck camp anymore. All the old Re...

Re: Anyone ever successfully re-sunk a pit that popped up???

Thanks for the input. Going to give it a shot at least. I'm sure we have some soil movement under the pit but the area in front wasn't visibly caved. I just need to find some suitable anchors. TSC shows some 6" in diameter and I guess I'll call the local mobile home seller. Come-a-long doesn't ...

Anyone ever successfully re-sunk a pit that popped up???

Anyone ever get a pit back in the ground without draining the entire field or waiting til summer??? Wondering if I'm going to be wasting my time this week. I'll save the you back story of the greedy farmer and the last minute scramble to find a place to hunt. Short story is this pit went in the grou...

Re: Looking for something to keep my SBEII from rusting.

Corrosion X or simple CLP has worked well for my SBEI. After a decode of hunting it has a lot of wear on it but no rust. Corrosion X is a heavier oil and I would never lube the action but it seams to stick the the outside of the barrel/receiver well and not wash off a quickly as CLP. -J

Re: Benelli freezing up?

It's mostly been covered, but i'll chime in anyway. Throw your Remoil away or learn to use it on the outside of your gun only. Remoil gets thicker as in gets cold. When clean your SBE make sure you clean and lube the recoil spring in the stock. Other than the ejector plates on the older guns it's th...

I've own a 4" .40 since they were first introduced. I'm a big fan. It's the one handgun I can honestly say has never had a failure of any kind.

Re: breathable waders

I've been wearing Hodgman Breathables (w/ zipper) for the last fives seasons. I have a pair of heavy duty neoprens I've kept around for really cold days but I just don't wear them anymore no matter how cold it gets. Breathables are just on another level as far as comfort goes. Wool socks, long under...

A friendly bump. As I said in the other thread, I have a custom set and several pairs of the Surefires. Surefires give 90% of the performance for 15% of the cost.

I hear you, on calling with plugs in. With a little time it gets to feel normal, sort of, but it's nice falling asleep without my ears ringing like a freight train.

Re: hearing protection - Ask ducksouth

I didn't wear ear pro when I was younger and I'm paying the price for it now. This is one thing I tend to get on a soapbox about. My Dad, brother and nephew won't wear earpro and tell them everytime we hunt. My 8you daughter has never been shooting without earpro and I hope is stays that way. I've a...

Re: Youth Wader

My 8yo daughter is about four and a half feet tall weighs maybe fifty pounds. She normally wears a size two shoe. She is hunting in a pair of size five lacrosse neoprenes. I thought the boots would be an issue but she gets around in the rice fields, no problem.
