Re: Stupid question about bullets and calibers?
The .243 Win in an 85 grain bullet is wicked on whitetail. The Main reason is because "speed kills" . The. 243 is a necked down .308 and is pushing an 85 grain bullet about 3300 fps which nor only provides more penetration but also starts getting into hydrostatic shock territory. Google hy...

Re: 6.8 SPC for deer hunting?
7mm-08 (140 at 2860) 8.0 12.6 .308 Win. (150 at 2800) 7.5 15.8 As you state, the recoil on the 308 is 25% higher, so the energy of that projectile is 25% greater, or thereabouts. That's NOT insignificant. For some situations, that is a big deal. Does it make a difference on a whitetail? Well, that'...

Re: 6.8 SPC for deer hunting?
Very interesting. I have been using 30.06 since I was a kid until I picked up a 308 savage aXis for really cheap last year. I had been wanting to go to a lighter recoil gun. I sold it after the season as I found it too light and decided I wanted something with a heavier barrel, better stock, and th...

Re: 6.8 SPC for deer hunting?
Yes recoil is actually less than a .243 but your sending a larger/heavier bullet downrange, Here is a couple of comparisons. Most experts agree, once you get over 15 lbs or recoil, it starts to effect your accuracy. My latest acquisition is a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact in 6.8 Rem which is pretty rare...

6.8 SPC for deer hunting?
Here is a report on the 6.8 SPC for a hunting round. I finally got a chance to get back into the woods after a couple year drought. When my son opted not to go, I snuck his Thompson Center Contender with 6.8 SPC barrel and Dixie Precision Suppressor to the woods. About 5:10 a good sized doe stepped ...

Re: Youth rifle ?
The .308, 7mm08, 260Rem, and .243Win, 338 Federal, 6.5 Creedmoore, and 358 Win are all based off the .308 case. They are short cartridges with mild recoil. The difference in recoil is the amount of lead you choose to push down the barrel. A 243 will handle 55 grain bullets up to about 105 grains, 26...

Re: Pay attention to what's going on around you
In today's world to many walk in around in "white" mode. Meaning unaware of their surroundings. Most everyone that comes to our classes wants to learn more about handgun shooting, and they are surprised to find we talk just as much about being aware of your surroundings as we do about how ...

Re: child abduction
A few weeks ago we hosted a Tom Givin's Combative Pistol Course at Boondocks. Tom spent 45 years in the Memphis Police Dept. The stories he told were unbelievable. The one statement that stood out more than anything else for me was when he said "We can't project our moral values on others"...
