Re: How was the weekend
I've been duck hunting since the 1980's and this is what I have learned. A DU Biologist once came to our property near Valley Park and explained that the south Mississippi Delta, which was largely crop fields in the 60's, 70', & 80's were slowly planted in CRP & WRP especially the areas that...

Re: Holly Bluff Baptist Church
My kids call the Valley Park Baptist Church the Alligator Church because when we first went there, there were 3 alligators in the water on Deer Creek on either side of the driveway off Highway 61. That's been probably 10-12 years ago.

Re: Trespassing Help/Suggestions
In marijuana fields, clear monofilament fishing line strung with fishing hooks at eye level has been used to thwart trespassers. Strung at groin level in the pathway of a trespasser on private property, I've seen well worn pathways grow up after the line and hooks came up missing. Strung above ATV h...

Re: Be respectful on Public Land
I've enjoyed reading this post as much as any. Here's my perspective as a hunter and law enforcement officer for 24+ years. Over the years I've worked as a doorman ('91-'93) at a country bar in Hattiesburg, known as Cowboys, where the Silver Saddle was on West Pine Street and have dealt with drunks ...

Re: Fifth Circuit rejects Yazoo pump project.
Rejecting the pumps in my opinion is a bad thing. This has been an ongoing battle and what the EPA and those against the pumps fail to realize is that the water is eventually going downstream anyway. Pumping it over the levee instead of allowing it to build up and flood property and residences is de...

Re: 500 lb deer killed in Simpson County
If you don't believe the Red deer could be considered livestock, roll up to a ranch with Red deer and get out and shoot a few, or several. Stick around and see how the owner, law enforcement, and the Court view them as livestock raised for profit. Your opinion may differ. You pays yo money and you t...

Re: 500 lb deer killed in Simpson County
So if a hunter decides to shoot a wild hog in the fading light and shoots a black bear by mistake, by your logic it would be ok? I believed it was a hog, I know I shot it, but it really isn't my responsibilty to identify what I am shooting, duh... That is how hunting accidents happen. What if it had...

Re: 500 lb deer killed in Simpson County
A Red deer is livestock, not wildlife. When did it become LEGAL to shoot livestock? I guess by this standard one could go duck or goose hunting and shoot a hawk, eagle, turkey, or heron ..cause it's just a bigger bird. And then seek out the news media to have your photo taken. If you don't know wha...

[quote="BR549 During the 1973 flood, the USACE did not open the Steele Bayou Control Structure when the Riverside dropped below the Landside, which continued to increase the Landside and flood additional property that had not been flooded, in an attempt to get water off the Riverside area soone...

Re: Where do you find if the Steele Bayou gates are open?
Do the pumps sound like a good idea about now? Discuss. No, they do not. 1. Apparently the gates ARE open, and therefore they would not be on. 2. If the pumps were closed, they would still not be on because they are not intended to be operated unless the gates are closed and the landside water leve...

Re: Where do you find if the Steele Bayou gates are open?
The pumps send the same water over the levee and south a few days earlier than without the pumps and prevent flooding property. With all the U.S. wastes on foreign corrupt governments a few dollars could be spent here to prevent flooding property owners in the south MS Delta. I attended the meeting ...
