Just a friendly reminder that the Ole Miss/Miss State debate is a little like Texans arguing with Californians about whose state is the biggest in the country - neither are willing to consider the possibility of the answer being Alaska.

Please Help

Here's the situation. After the Rev. Sharpton dropped out of the presidential race, much to my consternation, I had about 100 yard signs left over. It didn't seem environmentally sound to let 'em go to waste, so I decided I'd make some silhouette decoys. They came out pretty good, too. So good, in ...

Challenge

Make sure you use rough-sawn lumber so the little fellas can climb out - their footies don't work so good on smooth pine. If all you have is pine, tack a cloth from the hole to the bottom so they'll have a grip.

Migration Change

DD, you're my kind of guy. Ducks need a rest spot, but why not have the rest spots change every now and then? For example, that buffet the ducks have north of the road at Mahannah. The no-hunting area could swap to the other side of the road every week or two. Or Panther, no hunting on the west side ...

Versatile Breeds

Need some advise...

I know this is likely to start a firestorm from lab lovers, but does anybody have experience with any of the "continental" breeds (German Wirehair, Griffon, etc.)? I'm ready to get a dog and know what a lab can do. I thought it might be good to look into the abilities of some ...

Hevi Shot

I'm sold on this stuff after my hunt yesterday. THREE shots, FOUR dead ducks - two wood ducks and two greenheads. No followup watershots necessary. Very cool :!:

Maybe we could get Paul Prudhomme to work on a recipe that makes snow geese edible. That could be the beginning of the end...

one eye or two

Mick,

I had a similar experience. Assuming your fundamentals are good and you shoulder the gun consistently...

Everybody has a dominant eye and it can be an absolute pain in the neck if you're a right handed shooter with a dominant left eye because you instinctively sight with the dominant eye ...

Bear

I've seen two black bears in Mississippi, both at ranges of less than 75 yards. I don't know how many are in the state, but we definitely have a least a few. I saw one near French Camp about three years ago and I watched a cub climb a tree near Baxterville back when I was in college a decade ago ...

Report on First Duck

OK, the bird was on the water (even though he remembers that it was just about to land). He used my gun (12 gauge with IC choke and #4 shot) and did the aiming and trigger, I held it up and played backstop. He lined up that squealer at 25 yds and shot him like a turkey. We've been practicing shots ...

Report on First Duck

Took my six year daughter and four year old son with me this morning since the weather was so mild. Sister doesn't like to shoot, but loves to qwee on the wood duck call and chatter on the shaker tube. She called in a couple of groups for us this morning and my son shot his first duck, a drake ...

Lab Question

champcaller-

We're gonna have to actually kill some ducks before Belle can go get 'em. Had a good time Monday, let's do it again Saturday (and shoot a little better this time around).

Hunting is getting worse

Anybody know what size shot works best for mosquitos? I heard they work out OK in gumbo and I might have to take to shooting them.

COME ON WEATHERMAN! Get this right! Repeat after me, "Cold and wet. Freeze warning! Cold and wet..." PLEEEEEASE!!

Band Info

Got the certificate in on my first band, which I shot way back in November at DNF. Drake Wood Duck hatched in 2002 and banded 7/10/02 at Wheeler NWR near Decatur, AL.
