Re: Generic round up
Probably too dry and the weeds just aren't taking it up. If 64 oz/ acre doesn't kill an annual weed of decent size, God doesn't want it to die.

Re: Memphis
The best Italian food you will ever eat can be found at Pete and Sams near the corner of Park and Getwell. The best Mexican food is close by at Las Delicious. Good BBQ can be found anywhere, but try Interstate or Central Barbeque if you want to stay away from the main stream Rendevous and Corky's ...

high protein dog food
I've always heard you should go to a high protein feed during hunting season. Is it a good idea to start the dog on high protein dog food during dove season? I'll dove hunt 15 times between Sept and Oct. I didn't know if the warm weather and high protein would be a good idea or not.

Re: Spraying question
Probably the cheapest and safest is a super high rate glyphosate. I would run at least a half gallon to the acre with plenty of water volume. Adding 2,4-D to the mix will help for sure.
I'm giving you the agriculture experience. There are plenty of forestry guys that might have better input.

Just had to show her off. We are really proud of her. She is dooing well in training. Really good obedience. Marks really well in short grass. Has to hunt a little in moderate to tall grass on doubles. Working on blinds now too.

I could use live pigeons in the Memphis area too.

Re: Face paint or not?
I prefer taking a handful of mud and rubbing it on my face instead of face paint. I got the idea from Rambo First Blood. Mud is a lot cheaper than face paint and it's one less thing you have to remember to put in your blind bag.

Hill hunter is right. You can still buy it from an ag retailer, but it's not labeled for residential use. We will still have it as long as we have roundup resistant pigweed and cotton.

Re: May Pond Count Numbers
The success of our duck seasons depends on 3 things (in order of importance):
1) cold weather (especially fromMissouri North)
2) low water (when rivers like the White, St Francis, Cache, and Mississippi are out of their banks the birds get spread too thin)
3) high duck population (this is a distant ...

Re: Watch out for snakes
The old country recipe was to use sulfur to repel snakes. Supposedly the sulfur burns their belly and they won't cross it. I think you can buy bag sulfur at the co-op

Re: Amyone with access to a pit for training??
I agree with the lower sides. I built mine with 2 high sides and 2 low sides. She had a hard time with the high sides, so we are using the low one's right now. Its really not the same as a pit because she has to jump over the sides getting in versus stepping down in a pit, but its as close as I ...

Re: Amyone with access to a pit for training??
I built a box to help me train. I have it right side up to simulate a stand in the timber or a permanent blind. I flip it upside down to simulate her getting in and out of a pit. Not perfect, but its easy to use and no worries about snakes.

I've been feeding my chessie diamond naturals lamb and rice large breed and have been very happy. I usually get it at tractor supply. I've always tried to stay away from a lot of fillers and corn.
