Re: Learning to call

Im not really wanting to learn to call so that i can constantly blow at every duck that passes. The main reason i want to learn is just to pretty much say that i can do it..and just in case a day ever comes up that i need to call. Trust me i know that most of the ducks around here are more afraid ...

Re: Hunting Canada

I've hunted the second week of October in Southern Saskatchewan every year for the last 15 years, except for 2005 ( Damn Katrina). Best to hire an outfitter, who can often get permission from farmers that won't allow "strangers" in. It can get mighty cold early in the season up there, so pack ...

Re: What were you doing 5 years ago this afternoon?

We evacuated to Monroe, La. I spent the day arguing with the Project Manager over the Nextel (nothing else worked) about whether we could man up enough people to fulfill our pre-position contracts. 3 days later, we were overseeing the pumps at the 17th street canal to de-water New Orleans. The ...

Re: Dusks in Missouri

I know there is a lot of legitimate debate about the effect of these reservoirs on duck numbers in Miss/La. Speaking only for myself, and from my personal experience you are 100% right. The huge drop in the amount of ducks in my part of the State, especially Mallards, is a result of areas like the ...

Re: Geckos in Mississippi?

I wonder if you could "shortstop" the little suckers by putting bugs in the yard and keep them from migrating to the neighbors? Maybe someone can start Geckos Unlimited and Delta Geckos to do habitat conservation and breeding success studies on them.

Re: Stopping the migration to coastal marshes

I have to say that during the season after Katrina, my lease in South La, which was far enough off the coast not to be affected had a big jump in ducks. We figured that the lack of food in the coastal marshes forced more ducks up to us. I guess that if the oil does cause the submerged grass not to ...

Re: Stopping the migration to coastal marshes

I noticed in the Delta article that the biologist specifically says that mallards will only fly far enough South to find open water and food. Seems to me like he is saying short-stopping would potentially work on mallards?

Re: Government Flood Program

My first post....So just to make sure I'm clear on this, and since I just signed a lease on some property that is enrolled: The crop can be harvested and hunting is allowed? If the crop is harvested, what potential benefit is there to the Ducks?
