Re: Ringneck with radio transmitter and 2 bands

That's a lesser scaup, likely radio-marked and banded by graduate researchers under Dr. Al Afton from LSU. His contact information is as follows: Office: (225) 578-4212, Email: AAfton@LSU.EDU. If he didn't have something to do with marking that bird, he would know who did. He's a well-known expert ...

Re: Great Opportunity for Youth

Those are good points goosebruce. However, I think the intent of the camp is help "hunting kids" better understand the importance of hunting to waterfowl conservation and to introduce "non-hunting kids" to what it all means. I knew a few kids that went last year, and they want to go again this year ...

Re: migration is on

This is always a good time of year for high expectations, but they still have a ways to go. Check out the link: http://mdwfp.com/Level2/Wildlife/Game/W ... efault.asp

Re: moist soil plants on my lease...need some help

Check out the MDWFP Waterfowl Program website: home.mdwfp.com/waterfowl. Those are good plants, highly desired by ducks.

Re: Muscadine early teal

I hunted Muscadine on Saturday and had a very enjoyable hunt. The key to hunting Muscadine or any other area you've never hunted is to carry a map and flashlight with you. It's mighty curious when someone has to have their hand held to go duck hunting.

Re: Muscadine Section 1???

The map's accurate. Pond 1 is flooded. It's pretty difficult to find an unscouted spot alone in the dark, especially with so many mosquitoes. The drawback to the reservation system: some folks depend on internet scouting.

Beautiful hawg rainbows. The only thing prettier is a hawg German brown. I have always wanted to fish the San Juan but it is a too little far to drive from northern CA. What kind of nymphs did you catch em on? I have been catching a few here and there on nymphs and caddis in the afternoons. Let me ...

Bay-Area

Ditto on Rule #1. My wife and I just moved to Sacramento from Jackson. I would recommend spending a couple of days in the city then getting the hell out. While you are there, go to North Beach (Italian section, good restaurants) and go to the Buena Vista bar near Ghiradelli Square. Check out Point ...

CRP/WRP payments

If you look closely, DU is paid for conservation subsidies, i.e. WRP, CRP, etc. You know that DU doesn't farm. Wildlife Mississippi is also listed. It is not a conspiracy, don't worry.

Ducks Are Here!

m
I have to post this after all the moaning and groaning going on. I was scouting around the other day, and I found the ducks on some moist-soil. Mostly wigeon and gadwall, although there were a few coots. Nothing was moving em from this spot. I am sure no one will believe it was public land, maybe ...

That publication includes everything about water-level and vegetation manipulation. Wingman, if you already have the food, just keep doing what you are doing...disk regularly (every year or two), slow April-May drawdown, and irrigation ...

My work has shown that these moist-soil areas provide a lot more food per acre than harvested rice fields, here is the breakdown:

Harvested rice= 62 lb/acre
Intensively managed moist-soil= 1038 lb/acre
Moist-soil average= 538 lb/acre

Intensive moist-soil management denotes disking every year ...

Eastwoods,
You are more than welcome. I am glad I could help because that is what I have been trained to do. In my opinion, scientific knowledge is valuable only if it can be used to improve management (waterfowl or otherwise). I hope a lot of birds fall to my gun this year too.
