WATERTOWN, SD (KTIV) –The Redlin Art Center located in Watertown South Dakota officials said Terry Redlin passed away on Sunday, April 24 at age 78 after a nine-year struggle with dementia.

Redlin is best known for his nostalgic paintings of rural America.

U.S. Sen Mike Rounds (R) – S.D. made the following statement on the passing of Terry Redlin, devout wildlife conservationist and famed painter from Watertown:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Terry Redlin,” said Rounds. “Terry had a passion for promoting South Dakota and he shared his appreciation for our great state with the world through his paintings. Jean and I send our condolences to his family, his friends and all who admired his work throughout his distinguished career.”

Gov. Dennis Daugaard issued the following statement Monday on the passing of Terry Redlin:

“Terry Redlin was an iconic South Dakota artist. For many South Dakotans, Terry’s work brought to life our fondest memories of our state’s outdoor heritage and rural roots. He has left a legacy in Watertown and throughout the nation, and Linda and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Redlin family.”

The Governor has requested that flags be flown at half-staff statewide on the day of Redlin’s funeral, the details of which have yet to be announced.
