Grenada Lake is simply getting better every day. The recent rain fall has put fresh water in places that has not had water all year and the crappie have followed in masses to spawn as far up as possible. Jigging and wading action has been incredibly hot. Even though the water level will continue to rise and fall, stay with the farthest reaches and spawning crappie should be close by.

Ross Barnett is seeing a lot of high water however the weather has continued to keep good crappie action in the shallows. Much like last week, stay with the cattails and brushy cover to find spawning crappie. The bite has been really good and is expected to get better with no more rain in the immediate forecast.

The Blake Hall run down of north MS and north AL continues to give tactics for filling the boat with big bass. Guntersville, Wheeler & Pickwick Lakes are at or near full pool with recent rains and will remain at summer pool. April is the biggest spawning month in north Alabama and a majority of the bass are shallow in spawning coves and flats. Plastics are hard to beat this time of year. Lizards, worms and creature Baits worked slowly through these areas will get bit. I prefer any shade of green. Green pumpkin, watermelon etc… Bushes, grass flats are great places to start.

Smith Lake: Spawn is in full swing and you can find largemouths in any of the pockets or flatter sloughs off the main creek arms. Spotted bass will spawn on main lake chunk rock banks. Shaky head finesse worms are hard to beat. For info on how to fish with Blake or get fishing forecasts contact him at 256-566-3380!

hallfishThe boys at Run-N-Gun adventures along the coast of Texas are absolutely showing out with the high numbers of speckled trout. Not only are limits being caught but a lot of true trophy fish have been caught as well. Sticking with live shrimp under a cork has been the key as well as some plastics mixed in. Contact Daniel at 979-240-5312 to book your awesome fishing trip!

Bart and the guys at the SWC Sportsman’s Lodge in Venice have also continued to see great numbers of speckled trout as well as good redfish action. Off shore the tuna have been great as well and the upcoming weather gives a lot of hope for things to continue. To book a trip or find more info, call Bart at 601-466-0152.

Justin Fayard, the swordfishing wildman, reports this week that the tuna are incredible. 80% of the catches off shore have been tuna but with good weather in the forecast he expects to land more and more swordfish in the coming days. If you are looking for an incredibly fun and unique experience call Justin and Mexican Gulf Charters at 228-342-5807!

The Orange Beach area is also reporting great catches both inshore and off shore. The fishing around rigs has been great and mixed limits of fish have been common daily. The wind is cooperating much better this week and the fishing will only get better as we move toward clearer and calmer days!

Our friends at the Half Hitch in Destin are all about the Cobia right now. They are reporting that the Cobia bite is actually the best it has been in years! Yellowfin have also been found regularly as well as good catches of Wahoo. The bay has seen Sheepshead around the bridges and Redfish are also being caught in decent numbers. Contact the Half Hitch and keep up with their daily reports from the area!

In my opinion this weekend will be great no matter where you are. There is high water in some areas of the southeast and a small cold front could make fish a little sluggish but sunshine and calm winds will make things heat up quickly! Good luck and be safe out there!
