Any story with Benny is sure to be an entertaining one. Any story with Benny and something he didn’t agree with is sure to be even more entertaining. Spinning wing decoys are just one of those things that didn’t set too well with Benny, and he sure wanted to let everyone else know about it. We all know he didn’t care too much about what other Ducksouth users had to say back in the day. In one of Benny’s more famous posts back from 2001, he went on a long-winded spiel on the harms and stupidity that goes along with using “twirlies”, as he called them.
In Benny s opinion, with much more colorful language and tone than I have chosen to include, felt that these twirlies would be a harm to a duck’s natural habitat and only proved one to be a sissy if you used one. He argued that those who planted crops for the ducks to feed one while landing helped keep the duck habitat thriving by feeding them. Those who used twirlies were simply creating false advertisement to ducks that there was food there, and not only would this make ducks never come back, it was essentially harming the conservation efforts of ducks. Benny also felt that a twirlie was a sissy cop out for some city boy who didn’t know how to kill ducks the ‘ole fashion way. Any of the “good ‘ole boys” would know how to kill ducks based off of pure skill in the words of Benny.
So, if you would like to be the “Grand Poobah” of duck hunting like Benny is, make sure to keep your DU membership, a fancy boat, clothes to keep you warm, and twirlies at home. All of the rest of you who think you have the skill for what it takes to be a true and blue duck hunter, maybe there’s a chance Benny is off looking for a new duck hunting partner somewhere….
