Hannah Riggs, a native of Germantown, TN has joined the Ducksouth.com writing staff as an intern for the summer and fall.  Hannah began her work last week collecting stories from Ducksouth members and duck hunting personalities in the duck hunting world.

Riggs’s father and brother are very big duck hunters, so while Riggs didn’t do much hunting herself growing up, she was always very exposed to it and made many trips to her family’s farm in northwestern Tennessee. After high school, Riggs attended Belmont University in Nashville for three semesters before she transferred to Mississippi State University in the Spring Semester of 2016. She is currently a senior public relations major at MSU and lives in Starkville full time.

After moving to Starkville, her true love for hunting and the outdoors came about once she began dating a very avid duck hunter. After spending much time together and being at his family’s farm, she began to develop a strong interest in hunting. One evening this past summer, she was talked into picking up a bow and shooting it for the first tine. After that, she was hooked. For the next three months, every afternoon she spent outside practicing with the bow that eventually became hers. When bow season finally came around, the only thing on her mind was getting into the stand and trying her best at shooting her first deer. She was able to bow hunt three times last year, and unfortunately missed the only doe she saw. However, she had been practicing with her rifle as well to prepare for later in the season. Her first time sitting in the stand with the rifle, she was able to nail her first deer at 75 yards.

Since her family has always been big duck hunters, once she began developing a desire to hunt more, she was able to go on her first two duck hunt this year in; one Obion, Tennessee with a family friend and the other on Reelfoot Lake, with another family friend. While she wasn’t able to shoot her first duck this past season, she did get hooked and hopes to do much better this upcoming season.

In Riggs’s spare time, she also enjoys quilting, cooking, cat-fishing, spending time with family, and spending time with her miniature Australian Shepard, Wrangler, and Chocolate Lab, Copen.
