A couple months ago when I started doing this fishing report I did not want it to get too long winded and cause a distraction instead of giving you guys some great info on fishing. With that being said this will be the first of my weekly installments on where you need to fish and why broken down in different regions each week.

blake4201Josh’s List of Places You Really Need to Fish:

  • I cannot say it enough, get to Grenada Lake or Ross Barnett Reservoir and in a hurry. Both of these lakes are literally two of the top lakes in the country to catch limits of big crappie and now is the time the while the fish are hot and heavy in spring spawn mode. If you don’t live close by don’t worry about that either. There is a multitude of places to stay for very reasonable prices and most are within a stones throw of the lake. Now grab a buddy, a jig pole with some bright colored jigs and heads and go! You will thank me later.
  • I mean it when I say my phone fills up every week from the pictures I get from Blake Hall and the fish he and his clients are catching on Picwick, Wheeler and Smith Lake. The pre-spawn and spawn action for largemouth and smallmouth has been nothing short of phenomenal and Blake will absolutely put you on them. Trust me, I am not saying this just to build him up, the dude knows the water and the creatures that swim it! And if you have your own boat Blake can even work it out for you to tag along and learn from the deck of your vessel. Call Blake at 256-566-3380 and make sure to tell him I sent you!
  • If freshwater isn’t your fancy or you just want to enjoy the true sportsman’s paradise of the Louisiana gulf, there is no one with more accommodations or fishing expertise than the guys that run with Bart Haddad at the SWC Sportsman’s Lodge in Venice. If you want trout under a popping cork give Bart a call. If you want giant bull reds screaming drag out of your reel, call Bart. Heck if you want to take a dive in the deep end and strap in a chair to wrestle tuna and blue marlin, CALL BART! You can reach Bart at 601-466-0152, you will not regret spending a weekend with them I promise!
